Discount More cigarettes are a brand of cigarette which was originally marketed to both men and women and then changed its primary focus to women consumers. It typically has with a dark brown (rather than the traditional white) wrapper and is typically 120 mm in length. The More cigarettes brand does, however produce shorter versions with the typical white wrapper and white or cork filters.

The brand was introduced nationally by RJ Reynolds in June 1975. It was initially tested in Oklahoma City in 1974. More cigarettes were the first successful 120 mm cigarette. It is sold in both the full flavor and menthol flavors. It is currently considered a niche brand by RJR, still sold, but not promoted by advertising. It is sold globally under license to various other tobacco companies under the title of More International. The brand was expanded to include styles in the form of both brown and white 120 m. and a beige 100 mm. These styles have since been discontinued.

Beginning in late 2007, the Canadian market saw the addition of More cigarettes in three additional flavours: Liqueur D' Orange, Dark Rum and Whisky.

The brand is currently a product of J.T. International, in the EU.

Recent issues have carried reports of discount More cigarettes and Saratoga cigarettes , both 120 mm brands introduced in the United States. In November last year we were able to show an illustration of the More cigarettes packs (R. J. Reynolds), and now we have received samples of the Philip Morris Saratoga packs. We illustrate both together, to demonstrate the differences between the two brands. More cigarettes are 120 x 21 mm with a 30 mm single acetate filter. The cigarette paper is brown, giving the appearance of a "cigarlet", though the tobacco is an orthodox cigarette blend.

The packs (red and gold for standard, green and silver for the menthol version) are soft cups cigarettes are a little fatter, dimensions being 120 x 22 mm, also with a 30 mm single acetate plug. They have white paper and cork tipping. In packaging, however, Saratoga is more expensively presented. The packs for both standard and menthol versions, are hinge-lid cartons. The major part of the design area has been given a mock leather finish, on which the brand name is placed in a rectangular panel.

Coloring for the standard version is natural leather (tan), red and gold: that for the menthol version has a greenish tinge to the leather finish, with green and silver lettering and edging. It is interesting to see that Philip Morris have produced a 120 mm entry which is both slightly bigger and more lavishly packed than discount More cigarettes, the 120 mm pioneer. Contributions must be reduced as a consequence, but no doubt Philip Morris expects larger volume sales from the better offer. The U. S. trade press anticipates 120 mm entries from other manufacturers shortly.

One of the phenomena of the late 1975, early 1976 cigarette marketing situation around the world was the proliferation of 120 mm brands. It would perhaps be appropriate, a year later, to review the current situation. The majority of the 120 mm brands marketed are of U.S. origin, the United States being the market where the concept was first given major backing. In the United States it (according to the 1976 Maxwell Report) discount More cigarettes from R.J. Reynolds was the leading 120 mm brand.

The non-menthol version increased its market share from 0.4% (1975) to 0. 5%; the menthol version maintained its market share at 0.4%. Saratoga from Philip Morris is given the same market shares as in 1975 - i. e. 0. % (non-menthol) and 0.% (menthol). Later 120 mm introductions included Virginia Slims cigarettes 120's, American Longs, Eve 120's. All these were introduced in both menthol and non-menthol versions. Since then the situation has settled, and no further 12 0mm brands were introduced in the U.S.A.

It is estimated that the total 120 mm sector there by late 1976 represented only about 1.8% of the market, despite the frenzied activity of the early part of the year. Apart from More cigarettes coupons and Saratoga cigarettes, the only brands to have achieved an 0.1% share of market appear to be the non-menthol versions of Tall (American Tobacco) and Max (Lorillard). Outside North America 1976 saw a proliferation of the distribution of 120 mm cigarette brands. These included More cigarettes and Saratoga cigarettes as well as other 120 mm U. S. brands, in addition to a number of Virginia 120's. More cigarettes are by far the most widely distributed of the 120s, being sold in some 40 markets in various parts of the world. Others with a fairly wide spread pattern of distribution include Saratoga, Max and Rothmans Royals.
